If you are looking for an heirloom-quality timepiece you can hand down to the next generation, then like a car, it starts and stops with the engine that\u2019s under the hood.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just like an engine keeps your car running, a watch uses an engine called a movement to keep it ticking.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thankfully, unlike a car, there are only two types of engines in a watch: quartz and mechanical.<\/p>\n<p>Variations of these include solar powered and automatic watches, but they all fall into those two categories (battery powered or mechanical).<\/p>\n<p>This article will explain the differences between each type of watch movement.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Quartz_Movement\"><\/span>The Quartz Movement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The quartz movement first became popular when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/stores\/Seiko\/page\/0D7F551A-03E9-4A17-A914-A925729AF927?linkCode=ll2&amp;tag=themodestman-20&amp;linkId=ff10a09c910ef8b12fa7542218fbecb0&amp;language=en_US&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_tl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"65918\" data-lasso-name=\"Seiko Amazon Store\">Seiko<\/a> came out with them in 1959.
