All rights reserved.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The watch I\u2019m talking about is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B002SSUQFG?tag=themodestman-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"13239\" data-lasso-name=\"Seiko SNK809\">Seiko SNK809<\/a>, and after a week with it on my wrist, I can confidently say that it\u2019s not only the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themodestman.com\/best-watches-under-100-dollars\/\" data-lasso-id=\"13248\">best watch under $100<\/a>, it may be one of the better choices in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themodestman.com\/watches-under-500-dollars\/\" data-lasso-id=\"13313\">sub-$500 range<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on where you buy it, the SNK809 can be had for as little as $65, but it\u2019s even a steal at twice that. Seiko has a winner with the SNK809, and for the money, there\u2019s nothing else on its level.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The company relied on its rich history and experience building accurate, excellent movements to construct a watch in the sub-$100 range that easily shames timepieces costing many times more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A few small gripes pop up along the way, but they\u2019re not enough to tarnish what is otherwise a great watch with a solid value proposition.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a look at what makes the Seiko SNK809 so special.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SNK809_Design\"><\/span>SNK809 Design<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to look at the SNK809 and view it as anything other than a utilitarian timepiece. All rights reserved.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At 11mm thick, it\u2019s got the compact dimensions to make it wearable with suit and shirt cuffs, but there\u2019s enough heft for it to stand up to significant abuse. Seiko opted for its own in-house Hardlex crystal instead of acrylic.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not quite as hard or scratch resistant as sapphire, but it\u2019s far more durable than mineral glass and looks better, too.<\/p>\n<h3>The Crown<\/h3>\n<p>Seiko\u2019s tradition of placing the crown at four o\u2019clock continues here, but there are a few quirks that have to be noted at this price point. There\u2019s also no screw-down functionality here, which limits water resistance to only 30 meters, so the watch will be fine in the rain but should stay out of the pool.<\/p>\n<h3>Stock Strap<\/h3>\n<p>Now, we come to the strap, which is easily the SNK809\u2019s weakest point. You should definitely upgrade to something nicer!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The black nylon material looks and feels cheap, which clashes with the mostly premium feel of the watch itself.
